Pro Shot Video of Emperor’s Entire Set at Hellfest!

On June 22, 2014 Emperor made a very rare festival appearance at Hellfest in France to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their masterpiece, debut album, In the Nightside Eclipse. One of black metal’s most groundbreaking bands proved that (even though they are still officially dormant) they remain one of the most relevant bands in the genre 20 years on. This set is absolutely amazing and makes me pissed that I couldn’t make it to Europe for these reunion festival appearances this summer. These guys seriously need to tour North America! I would travel to anywhere on the continent to catch that.

Black (metal) Friday: Emperor play the Bathory Classic “A Fine Day to Die” live at their first gig in seven years

This week was one of many landmarks in the world of black metal. Aside from metal’s most notorious band, Mayhem releasing their first album in seven years, this week also saw the 10th anniversary of the death of Bathory leader Quorthon and the first live performance from Emperor in seven years. Emperor kicked off their run of European summer festivals this week at the Sweden Rock Festival. The band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their watershed first album, In The Nightside Eclipse. Unfortunately this occasion will not see a new album or widespread tour from the band, who still consider themselves to be officially broken up. They did, however, pay tribute to Quorthon by closing their set at Sweden Rock with a cover of the Bathory classic, “A Fine Day to Die.” Come on guys: Is two American dates too much to ask? New York and L.A…. that’s all I want for X-mas!
